Simple Skincare

Let’s face the facts, unless you have your life together - you don’t have to brag - you’re probably taking proper care of your skin like, what, once a month? Hey- we’ve all been there; buying endless amounts of skincare products just to have half empty containers laying around, but you can’t convince yourself to throw them away because “maybe I’ll use this next week.” Yeah...right.

The truth is our skin is our greatest protector from the outside world. It’s our first line of defense for environmental factors like pollutants and diseases, and if we don’t start giving it attention, guess what?? ...it...will…AGE! Ahhh! Scares us too! Our skin says so much about where we have been and where we are going. So, start treating your all of your skin, face and body, the way it deserves to be treated- grapes don’t have to be raisins! Establishing a healthy routine can help build that ‘feel good’ lifestyle we’re all searching for.

So, what can we do to repay our body for carrying us around all our lives? Finding a few products that can easily be added to your current skincare routine are perfect (and not hard to find!).

Body Lotions

Body lotions with retinol, Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) and Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) help speed up cell turnover, in turn giving us fresh, new skin more often. Faster cell turnover = damaged, tired skin sloughing off. Goodbye age spots and sun damage!

Cleansers/Exfoliators

Using acids as exfoliation are the less aggressive way to keep your skin working properly. Vitamin C is the ‘hail mary’ of ingredients for reversing signs of aging! We also want to keep the skin barrier strong and intact. Even though body scrubs grant instant gratification, they should be used only as a pick me up a few times a week in unison with a body lotion.

Protectants

Preventative measures are the way to go for many conditions- why should skincare be any different?! The best way to suit up and protect your skin from many harmful agents is by wearing sunscreen. The best way to help your skin out is by applying it “30 minutes before sun exposure and at least every 2 hours” after (New York Times). Want to protect your skin, but don’t want to smell like you’re going to the beach 24/7? No problem! Several daily moisturizers have built in sunscreens. Just make sure it’s at least SPF 30!

Our skin deserves love- and not just once a month. If you treat your skin the way it deserves, it’ll return the favor by making you glow baby!
