Stress Management

By: Team Trilogy

We live in a world full of stress. Whether it's from your job, family life or just the pressure from every day struggles, stress seems to be unavoidable. Did you know there's such a thing as good stress versus bad stress?

There are technically 3 different types of stress: Eustress, Environmental and Distress, and they each impact our bodies differently.

Eustress
is when we’re stressing for something good- like planning a wedding or having a baby. Environmental stress refers to a negative psychological response to a stimulus in your environment, and it is entirely subjective, meaning that what is considered stress for one person in a particular situation may not be the same for another. Distress, the most common kind when we think of stress, is negative stress. This can be due to work, financial or other problems. These different kinds of stress impact our body, mind and skin in different ways.

  • On Your Body: Headache, muscle tension/pain, chest pain, fatigue, upset stomach, sleep problems, frequent illness, weight gain, various diseases
  • On Your Emotions: Anxiety, restlessness, lack of motivation/focus, irritability, sadness, forgetfulness, feeling overwhelmed
  • On Your Skin: Wrinkles, premature aging, acne, skin cancer, eczema
  • On Your Behavior: Over/under eating, outbursts, drug/alcohol abuse, social withdrawal, procrastination

It's important to understand how stress impacts us differently in order to manage, or offset, these affects.

Exercise will offset a lot of mental and physical damage that stress can cause by releasing “feel good” hormones and decreasing things like your blood pressure.
Massages will relax the muscles and relieve tension that is built up over time due to stress.
Facials and body wraps can help remove dead skin and aid in the repair caused by environment stress.

Combating the effects of stress on the body is something we have to work every day. The most important thing you can do is identify the triggers of your stress and begin implementing preventative routines to better prepare your body to work through it. Not sure how to begin?
